Local Government Reorganisation 

An initial joint outline proposal for reorganisation from the 15 Local authorities in Hampshire (Hampshire County Council, Portsmouth City Council, Southampton City Council, the Isle of Wight Council and the 11 District and Borough Councils was submitted to Government on the 21st March 2025.  The initial report can be read in full by clicking here.

The document focuses on principles and talks at a high level about a number of options.  Once a steer has been received back from Government then more detailed proposals will be developed which will be submitted to Government by the end of September for a decision.  

while Local Councils are not directly included in the proposed changes the Government White Paper on Devolution talks about strengthening the relationship between town and parish councils and the new unitary councils.  The white paper can be found by clicking here.  Hart District Council have held Community Governance Reviews to 'right size' existing Parish and Town Councils.
